Could They, Would They? Censor the Internet?

My daughter is a graphic artist and she is a techno-geek. The apple doesn't fall from the tree. Anyway last night when I arrived home after having dinner and coffee with Amanda Corlies my daughter came rushing out the front door to tell me some 'breaking news!' She was saying things like censorship, internet, legislation. Once I finally got through the front door of the house she filled me in on the Protect IP Act and SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). My first reaction was could this really be happening? And I didn't think much about it because none of the blogs I read were talking about it and really don't we have free speech covered under the amendment?

Then... all exploded today. If you were on tumblr or visited Mozilla's home page or a number of other sites you could get a taste of what it would be like if either of these bills actually were passed. I don't want to seem like I am running through the street screaming 'the sky is falling' but I am concerned. Especially after reading this over at Huffington Post. Over at one of my favorite blogs, The Mary Sue, Jamie Frevele says alot of the things I would say... like "surely this is being blown out of proportion?"

So, here is a video to help illustrate what could potentially happen:

So, we did our bit. We wrote letters to our legislators and made phone calls. And now we are spreading the word to others who may be completely blindsided by this inanity. Yes, inanity. So, go here to Fight For the Future and contact your legislators.
