Do You Write With Sexy Fingers?
I did a little time traveling today. John Scalzi, science fiction author and president of the SFWA, is featured in Writer's Digest September 2011 issue. My first reaction was 'wait isn't this July 2011?' Anyway the link is to the continuing Q&A that followed the interview that will be in the September issue. Scalzi talks about how not to be boring:
It basically boils down to “don’t be boring.” As a reader I have a very short attention span and a low tolerance for boredom, and I find that comes in handy with my writing. If I get bored writing something, I pity the people who will then try to read it. So I keep the “am I bored with this?” question near the top of my mind when I write.
Important stuff to remember when writing.
Author, Mike Mullin, over at Mike Mullin, Author, writes about "Why Bad Reviews Rock." I am keeping a copy of this handy and will remember to pass along bad reviews of my work. He's not the only one who is cleverly using bad reviews to advantage.
Over at the Write Angle, Lucy Marsden shares some blurb writing tips. This came at a particualarly good time for me. I have been struggling with the back cover blurb for Scholar's Rock for a few days. Blurb writing is an art. One that I need to work at.
As for me the word count thus far today is around 500. But, I am blogging early so I can get back to work.
And here's a shout out to lovely author, S.J. Frost, who received some honors for a couple of her M/M romance books. Frost is one of my recommended reads for anyone new to the genre.
Would I leave you without something fun to do? Never! (NSFW)
