The Hugo Winners! OMG!
Hang on while I have a fangirl post:
Yesterday was the end of Renovation which is WorldCon which is a convention for Science Fiction that has been held for nearly 70 years. Every year on the last day of WorldCon are the Hugo Awards. A full list of the winners can be found at The Mary Sue. Yesterday Chris Garcia won Best Fanzine (via Whatever) for his work The Drink Tank-- it's one of the many awesome fanzines out there. Anyway, his acceptance speech is worth the fact that again this year I was unable to attend the event. (You have to watch an ad to get to the acceptance video-- so be sure to click on the play button following the advert).
And I suppose in my fantasy universe if I ever won a Hugo I would react something like this or turn into a puddle of sobbing on the floor. For me being nominated for a Hugo would be a dream, winning a Hugo is not something I can even fathom. Hell I can't even fathom being nominated. I seriously love Science Fiction. Always have always will. I am confessed Geekgirl of epic proportions.
I am very excited about the Hugo winners especially Doctor Who and Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It, edited by Lynne M. Thomas and Tara O’Shea (Mad Norwegian).
Next year WorldCon will be in Chicago (Chicon 7) and will coincide with DragonCon, which is another event I've always wanted to attend. Perhaps if I am very good I will be able to get myself to both events next year and be able to attend the Hugo's in person. *swoon* If 2012 turns out the way I'd like I'll be attending Comic-Con, Chicon, and DragonCon. Seriously a person could spend a great deal of time and money attending Cons across the country and throughout the world.
That said I am looking forward to GayRomLit which is creeping ever closer.
